Virtual machines

A RemoteGPU virtual machine (VM) gives you a Linux system with root access. Install your own applications and development tools, and choose a GPU plan for software that needs NVIDIA hardware. Each VM has a public IPv4 address and a disk that keeps your files when you stop the VM.

Manage VMs from Virtual Machine / Instances. Connect with SSH or open the browser console to log in and use the VM.

Choose a plan and image

Choose a CPU plan for workloads that do not need a GPU. Choose a GPU plan for workloads that need NVIDIA hardware. The plan selector shows CPU, memory, GPU, and pricing information. The VM can start once those resources are available.

The image selector shows images for your selected plan. NVIDIA images include a driver at creation. An existing VM keeps its operating system and installed software when you change its plan.

What you manage

RemoteGPU creates the VM and provides controls to start, stop, and resize it. You manage the software inside it. This includes installing applications, updating the OS and GPU drivers, setting firewall rules, and backing up files.

If you change a CPU VM to a GPU plan, you may need to install a driver yourself. The plan change does not install one. Follow GPU drivers to check what is already installed before making changes.

Start using a VM

  1. Create a VM with a plan, image, storage size, root password, and optional SSH public keys.
  2. Connect to the VM using its public IPv4 address or browser console.
  3. Install and run your application inside the VM.
  4. Manage the VM to stop it, change resources, rebuild it, or delete it.

Stopping keeps your disk and its files. Rebuilding replaces the disk with a fresh OS, and deleting removes both the VM and its disk. See Data and charges for what each action keeps and which charges continue.
